Jaime Busto and GasGas just one step away from victory in the Granada X-Trial

Jaime Busto shows off his excellent form with a second place at the Palacio de los Deportes in Granada, his second podium of the season after finishing third in Barcelona.

The GasGas Trial Factory Team riders made it through the first qualifying round with no problems, Busto and Fajardo taking second and third positions respectively. This was an encouraging result that put the GasGas riders in the same group as Benoit Bincaz.

This made for an exciting three-way duel in which the Basque rider came out on top and gave him his direct pass to the grand final. Unfortunately, a mistake in the last zone left Jeroni Fajardo out of the fight for the podium. In the final Jaime Busto finally came second, getting the best result for GasGas so far this season.

After this, the fourth event and now past the half-way point in the championship, Jaime Busto and Jeroni Fajardo occupy third and fifth places in the general classification with 45 and 31 points respectively.

The Palais des Sports de Marseille, in France, is to host the fifth round of the X-Trial World Championship on 9th March.

“Today we got the best result of the season, with Jaime going in to the final and finishing in second place. In this second half of the event calendar we wanted to fight to be in the final and for victory, and that’s how it came out. There are only two races remaining and we hope to continue in the same line, getting better and better. Jeroni also had a good race, but a mistake in the last zone of the second round prevented him from fighting for third position. The most important thing is that we have improved with regard to results and that we are already where we should be, so we are going to try to get a win in the coming races.”

Jaime Busto

“I am happy because I rode well in the first two rounds and made the final for the first time this season.  In the final I did not ride as I wanted and also had to change my bike so I did not feel comfortable.  I hope this good result marks a turning point for the rest of the season.”

Jeroni Fajardo

“I have mixed feelings because I felt very good during the first and second rounds, at a great level. I was fighting to get into the final, but an error in the last zone pushed me down to fifth place. I had gone from fighting for victory to running out options of getting a podium position. It was a shame because I believe that today we were in a position to fight for the top places.”
