MICHELIN CONTINUE WINNING AT ROUND TWO

With the defending British Trials champion James Dabill (Beta) absent due to preparation for the Trial World Championships in Italy, the second round of the 2019 ACU Trial GB series was held at Lletty Rafel Farm, Aberdulais, Neath, South Wales where the riders competed for the St David’s Cup.

With another good entry of 54 riders entered across newly-named Trial GB, Trial 2, Trial 125 and Expert classes the weather remained clear and dry all day as the riders took on 12 hazards, ridden over three laps. The Welsh Valleys provided a wide variety of terrain from exposed rocky outcrops to steep banks, streams and wet, wooded areas.

The round one winner Dabill’s absence left the door open for Jack Price (JST Gas Gas UK) to take the win from one of the younger riders in the championship Toby Martyn (Beta) and move to the head of the championship after two rounds by a single point.

A close battle had emerged between Jack Price and Toby Martyn on the exposed hillside venue but with the best lap scores on each of the three, Price always had the upper hand over Martyn as Dan Peace took the last step on the podium in third position.

Jack Price: “As we approach the opening round of the FIM Trial World Championship next week I am very happy and feel more confident to have taken my first major outdoor victory of the 2019 season and move to the head of the championship table.

I started well which is always a good indicator for the day with the hazards at their worst on the first lap but they did improve as the event progressed as the warm dry air dried them out. This was reflected in my second lap score which was the best of the trial.

In these situations the tyre choice is essential with the ever changing conditions and the feedback and feel from the Michelin X-Light tyres gave me the confidence to fight for the victory after the very closely contested opening lap.

The consistency of the best lap score over the three was the key to victory as it put my rivals under constant pressure. The Michelin X-Light trials tyres have once again proved vital on my road to success showing how they can adapt to the changing conditions we have encountered here at round two.”
