With the summer coming to a close it’s been a hectic few weeks for the Birkett Scorpa UK team. First stop was the ever popular British super trial weekend. The annual event put on by Stu Robinson and his team is always a highlight of the year, been run on stop allowed rules is a great event to put rider against sections. On Saturday it would be the turn of the ladies to battle it out for the British super trial crown. Our Number one ladies rider Jess Bown had a solid day coming in a respectable 3rd position. The stop allowed ruling isn’t something that suits Jess’s style to much so to come third was a fantastic result. The weekend wouldn’t stop there for Jess as the ladies would continue on to the next round of the British Championship on Sunday ran be the Bexleyheath DMMC. Jess would get right back into her following and controlled style of riding and but in a great performance to again finish 2nd. Jess has all but secured 2nd in the championship with one round remaining. Back to the British Super Trial Championship it was the men’s turn to battle the 9 section course. Aiming to make it to the 6 man final, team riders Andy Chilton and Tom Minta put in a very strong showing against many full time riders in a high quality entry. Both would come up short but would shine with some great rides in the qualifying lap.
Bank holiday weekend would see the 5th round of the RT Keedwell British Championship held by the Guisborough Motor club. Held in Whitby this would be Andy’s home round just 5 minutes from home. However it would be a day to forget for Chilli with what would be his worst result in this year’s series. With the trial turning out to be fairly easy and low scoring too many 5 mark penalties would see him fall out the top 10. Young Tom would fair much better and again establish himself well in the top 10. Riding confident all day Tom would exactly sit 5th after the first lap. A couple of small mistakes on his 2nd and 3rd laps would drop him to 8th on the day. Andy and Tom sit 7th and 8th in the overall championship with 3 days of competition left.
The first weekend in September and it was a return to TrialGP at the ever iconic Addingham Moorside near Silsden. This would be the final round of the TrialGP Women championship. Jess would be looking to carry in her excellent British Championship form into her home GP. After a really good effort in Q1 she would suffer a couple of mistakes in the all important Q2. Qualifying hasn’t been Jess’s strong point and will be something she’ll look to improve on for next year. On race day Jess set off in great form and would be battling fellow TDN member Donna Fox for the final podium position. Unfortunately for Jess she would struggle in the final 4 sections on the last lap to drop to 8th on the day and 8th in the championship overall. The scores on the day were so close and only 5 marks separated 4th to 8th.
It’s been a busy few weeks and things continue for the team with the White Rose national this weekend.
