It was back to British Championship action last weekend for the Birkett Motorsport team, with Tom Minta and Andy Chilton heading down south to Devon for the West of England round of the RT Keedwell solo British championship, and Reece Gazzard tackling the Sheffield and Hallamshire round of the ‘B’ class British Championship.
Sunday would be the first major event both Andy and Tom would ride since their successful Ssdt week, and it showed with both riders struggling to find there best form from earlier in the year! A lack of bike time plus very humid conditions made for a extremely tough day for both. Andy would find a bit of form on his second lap to pull him well inside the top ten in 8th at the finish! Tom would battle through the day to complete the top ten!
Youth scarlet Reece would have a great result however and finished on the podium in 2nd. Reece is still battling with a shoulder injury so this 2nd place was well deserved. Leading the event after the first lap the injury showed as his lap scores slipped. This result keeps Reece in the hunt for the overall championship win and hopefully a full recovery from the injury is near.
Andy: “I can’t be to disappointed with today’s result, 8th is my worse of the year but I haven’t had enough bike time coming into the event and I was hit and miss all day. Overall I’m happy with how the championship is going and I’m still in touching distance of the top five. My aim is to get on the podium and I will be pushing hard ready for my home round in August! Bike was perfect all day in the tough conditions”
Tom: “Really struggled with my riding today, I couldn’t find my rhythm from the start and the sections weren’t to my liking! I will put this weekend behind me and look forward to the next one! Thanks to everyone at Scorpa for there support”
Darren Gazzard on Reece’s behalf: “Reece rode the 3rd round of the youth B British championship today finishing 2nd. A hard 5 on the first lap give his shoulder a twist but rode on to finish 2nd. Too many slack marks being lost. Reece is happy enough with the result but knows he should be more consistent. Mintex next weekend so let’s hope for another good result there”
Nigel Birkett: “Tough weekend for the lads, it’s hard to balance work and practice and I appreciate that. I know both Tom and Chilli will bounce back. Reece is riding out of his skin with his injured shoulder so hats off to the boy! I hope he can rest up and get 100% fit soon. Thanks to all my team”
Birkett Motorsport would like to thank all there sponsors for their continued support ..
