This year’s Travers Trophy Trial is fast approaching and the Newcastle club are putting in significant effort to ensure the trial remains one of the best road based nationals in the country. Once again this is the last round of the S3 Championship but with some changes to the format. The entry fee now includes RTA insurance and there is also the addition of a second tier championship for clubmen on the easier route, so an interest for every rider.
There are no major changes to the route this year, the start/finish remains at the Allenheads Inn as this has proved popular. However the club have listened to feedback from riders regarding some of the sections and also reduced road mileage.
To increase the appeal to all riders the club is including more straightforward sections utilising the natural terrain in the area. The championship class will retain some big steps and waterfalls but these are reduced for clubman. Single lap trials of this nature have always favoured the later numbers. Club members and others not taking part in the event have been out filling in holes and riding sections to give early numbers a much better day, a big task as most of these sections are only used once a year. Finally some new sections have been included with more planned in the coming weeks.
So if you would like to ride a classic road based trial for modern bikes, regs are available on the ACU website. Secretary John Hutchinson can be contacted by email at email@example.com or Mobile 07867 791205, entries close on the 18th September.
