Two big events at the weekend with the Adults at the popular Lakes two Day Trial and the last Youth A/B BTC at Matlock…
The Lakes is always a great event and ‘the’ big warm-up for this coming weekends Scott Trial. The Team were out in force minus Alexz Wigg who is struggling with his injured ankle after the Torridge BTC last month. He wisely decided to sit out the Lakes thinking of the Scott where he will try and ignore the pain for the ‘race’ on Saturday. At least at the Scott there is no walking of sections.
JSTGGUK No.1 Rider Michael Brown had a very close battle with his pal James Dabill and finished only two marks behind the new British Champ. Judging by the results the trial looked good on Saturday but a bit easy on Sunday.
Michael was buzzing with his bike prepped in ‘Scott mode’ that Kev prepared last week. Michael assures me that it will be flying next Saturday!
Team mate Sam Haslam had a solid 4th place, just missing the podium by two marks.
Looks like Dan Thorpe was also mixing it with the top boys finishing 7th. The results were quite close because of the easy sections yesterday.
JSTGG rider Jack Stones was 16th.
It was also the last Youth A+B BTC at Bracken Rocks organised by the Mansfield Maun Club who always put on a good event. The venue is always tough and always high scoring to sort out the young men from the boys.
With our top JSTGGUK Youth rider Dan Peace already wrapping up the A Class title up at the last round he rode yesterday with no pressure and thrashed he rivals by a massive 30 marks!
Dan really is looking good and maturing into an impressive rider. I think when he masters 300 power he will open a lot of the leading Adult BTC regulars.
His younger brother Jack was on the podium in 3rd missing out on most cleans for second place to his JST team mate Sam Yeomanswho was gutted yesterday not to clinch the B Class title. Jack is still recovering from a broken arm and did well at this tough round.
Sam was in a battle with Toby Martyn and whoever won yesterday was to win the B class championship. Both Sam and Toby were ‘clean’ after lap one but a bad second lap for Sam destroyed his head and Toby took a convincing win and the title so congrats to him and Beta.
I went yesterday to have a nosey and was impressed with some great riding. I have spent hours at Bracken Rocks in my day and so i know the venue very well. Dan impressed me a lot…also Tom Minta, Tom Hooper, Toby Martyn and Sam Yeomans. Jack Peace is back on his bike and his arm is healing and also looked good considering.
Thanks to Kev for prepping Michaels race bike
Thanks to Trialmag for the pics.
Looking forward to The Scott100 this Saturday. Fail to prepare…prepare to fail !
