Summer Trial 2015
The Mid Antrim Motor Club are considering a name change for their ‘Summer’ trial as it was held in gale force winds with heavy squally showers but despite the weather was thoroughly enjoyed by the 58 competitors who took part. The 10 section, 4 lap event was a round of the Ulster trials summer series and the 2nd round of their Michelin Mid Antrim trials series. It was held at the disused Ballynulto quarry near Broughshane on Saturday 6th June. The club are indebted to the Stevenson family for allowing the use of this great trials venue.
Jonny Lunney had a narrow victory in the expert class losing 46 marks to Stuart McClurg’s 51 while Josh Hanlon and Matthew Millar both finished on 98 marks. Josh took 3rd on cleans, 12 to 6.
In the semi expert grade Neil Moore was the clear winner on 31 from Stephen Pyper on 42. Garth Mackey was 3rd losing 65.
The Clubman grade had biggest entry with 21 competitors starting in the grade. Robbie Jennings kept his feet up all day losing 0 marks to win this grade from Martin Drennen who lost only 2 marks. Phil McClurg and Steven Cromie lost 3 marks each but Phil got the decision on cleans, 38 to 37.
The Sportsman/Novice grade had 18 starters. 5 competitors lost 0 marks so could not be separated, so Jamie Nixon, Raymond Mason, Scott McNeill, Lee Hulme and Cameron Grieve shard the honours. There were a number of first time competitors in this grade and they all enjoyed their first competitive event.
In the Youth grades George Taylor 49 marks won Youth A from Reece Gazzard on 58 marks. In Youth B local lad Alex O’Boyle from Slemish, who was competing in his first trial, won this grade from Josh Pyper. Both lads lost 15 marks but Alex got the decision on cleans 5 to 4. The O’Boyle family from Slemish have been great supporters of the club’s ‘Slemish Cup’ trial since it first started 70 years ago so it’s not hard to see where young Alex gets his interest in trials from.
In Youth C Stuart Lappin won from Dylan Smyth, 2 marks to 7 marks.
This trial was the 2nd round of the Michelin Mid Antrim Trials Series 2015. The full series scores can be found on the club website .. www.mamc-bikes.co.uk
This was another great event promoted by the Mid Antrim Motor Club. The club wish to pass on their sincere thanks to the landowner Mr. Nelson Stevenson for the use of this excellent venue and to all the observers who braved the wet and stormy conditions to mark the scores.
