Labour weekend in Nelson, NZ, would be a busy one for all the local riders as it was to hold all three rounds of the 2014 MTF New Zealand Trials Championship.
This year to add a bit of International spice one of New Zealand’s top riders, Karl Clark, had “Head Hunted” World number 13 Jack Sheppard whilst at this years SSDT to pop over and undertake some trials schools as ride in this Championship event.
The first two days of competition were very close and the scores were low, with the top 3 losing less than 20 marks on both. Jack Sheppard took his Beta to the win at the first round by a slender margin over Gas Gas mounted Jake Whittaker, on the second day the results were reversed making the third and final round the title decider. Karl Clark had finished 3rd on both days to keep pressure on the top 2 in case of any major disaster.
The sections had been set out a bit stiffer for the last day, and also overnight rain had increased their severity and this was shown in the final results as only eventual winner Sheppard and 2nd place man Jake Whittaker put in total scores of less than 100 marks. Again third place was the ever consistent Karl Clark on his Beta.
And that is the order of the final Standards for the Championship, Jack now continues his visit to the stunning country of New Zealand and the only question remains .. will he return to defend his title next year? .. !
