Andy Chilton

First up on Saturday it was Lincoln Motor cycle and car clubs turn too run the second round of this year ladies and girls British championship. A well supported event saw Scorpa rider Jess Bown once again show great promise with a solid 2nd place behind current British and World champ Emma Bristow! Jess really showed great promise with the first clean on the very tough section 3! A final lap score of 7 was very much on the pace of the winner!

Over the water in the Isle of Man there was the opening rounds of the Youth British championship. Young Reece Gazzard fresh from his European trip, had a very successful weekend aboard his factory Scorpa 125! A few slack marks on Saturday put Reece on the podium in 3rd however a stronger more confident ride on Sunday was rewarded with the win in B class. This is a perfect start to the year for young Reece and he’s really showing the ability of the Scorpa 125 factory machine.

Sundays action continues with round 2 of the men’s BTC up in Cumbria held by the Westmorland motor club! A damp morning turned to rain which really made things interesting throughout the day! With the support of the boss Nigel Birkett, Scorpa duo Andy Chilton and Tom Minta looked to build on there fantastic results at last weeks Chris Carter. After a shaky start to the trial Andy put in a good opening lap and used that to finish the day again in 7th position but close to the top 5 which is very much the aim! Chris Carter victor Tom would show signs of brilliance but a inconsistent day would frustrate him all day but a improved result of 9th is a great positive for Tom to take into the 3rd round in 2 weeks time.

Sugarloaf mountain in county Wicklow would host final round of the Irish championship.
The Irish championship was still up for grabs but Stuart McLurg had the advantage of a 4 point lead. Local rider and current Irish champion Scorpa very own Sean Doyle had it all to do if he wanted any chance of retaining the Irish title.
Suffering with 2 broken bones in his right hand and a damaged shoulder this was going to be tough challenge. Youngster and the up and coming tallent Josh Hanlon also had his eyes on the prize although a further one point a drift off Doyle in the overall standings.
Sean got off to a great start, recording a 2 mark loss on the opening lap . Stuart was steady and in second place on 12 marks with Josh nipping at his heels on 13.
With Doyle increasing his lead , McLurg and Hanlon swapped places.
It was looking like Doyle could take the win of the patland cup as he recorded his final lap of 4 marks.
With the arrival of McLurg back to paddock and some friendly banter between the two , it was all down to Hanlon to decide who was going to be crowned the 2018 Irish champion. Hanlon posting a lap 9 marks to take second position and give Sean the title for another 12 months.
