The Museum Trust was honoured to receive from the great Bob Light his collection of books, photos, editorial and scrap books.
Bob Light was one of the senior scribes of the 60’s and 70’s who wrote wonderful articles and great reports on events, including grass track, and had an enormous depth of knowledge of the industry.
It is probably appropriate that Bob Light’s collection has joined the Ralph Venable’s collection in the reading area of the Museum – Ralph and Bob’s archive collection is second to none! Bob was in fact mentored by Ralph Venables when he was still at school! We have extended this area to accommodate these two world class collections for our visitors to read and research. It gives our Museum staff much pleasure to see visitors spending hours in the reading area reliving the past and enjoying the fantastic photographs and memorabilia!
Bob’s book ‘First Rich Mixture’ can still be bought on the internet and in fact the first 1000 copies printed weren’t enough – all due to Bob’s command of language. Due to his talented use of English, Bob wrote and ghost-wrote many books and he continued to write up until the late 1990’s.
Bob Light’s brother Martin Light kindly brought the collection to the Museum and we were very honoured to be gifted such wonderful archive material; we hope to display this wonderful collection for many years to come.
