The John Hardaker Trial – Round 5 of the ACU British Trials Championships

It was the Guisborough & District MCC who hosted round 5 of the R T Keedwell sponsored ACU British Trials Championships last Sunday at ‘The Quarry’ Aislaby. Conditions went downhill during the day with heavy rain coming in but scores in the sections remained relatively low for one of these events so there were plenty of clean rides. This also made the scores quite close so there was little room for error.

James Dabill (Beta)

James Dabill in the Championship class did however end lap one of three running in third place with a loss of three marks. Ahead of him was Jack Price and Dan Peace but this was not how it would end. James completed his next 2 circuits for no further loss of marks whilst his main rivals on the day did. Price had a further total of 5 marks and Dan Peace 8 including a five four sections from home. Dan’s brother Jack had a clear ride into fourth place with Toby Martyn fifth after a bad start to the day.This now means James Dabill holds a 19-mark lead from Jack Price with just three rounds remaining.

Ross Danby (TRS UK)

Another rider with a 100% record to date is Ross Danby in the ‘Masters’ class. Danby was a model of consistency completing the event with a total loss of just 14 marks lost with only section 7 causing him any problems. He led home Adam Milner by some distance with Tom Affleck third.

Luke Walker

Expert series leader Richard Sadler had to settle for third at the Hardaker with the win going to Luke Walker. Luke had not ridden for a number of weeks but with three laps with one mark dropped on each was a result and a half. Guy Kendrew came home in second losing just five marks, so he made up a few points on ‘Saddles’ but Richard still holds a good lead in the series.

Mitch Brightmore (JST Gas Gas UK)

Mitchell Brightmore returned from injury in the Youth Elite class to take a nine-mark win over Charlie Smith with Gus Oblien third. Smith had the best of the opening lap in the Quarry but Brightmore got better on every lap to end up with a good win as his rivals did not fare so well on the courses later hazards.
