2025 ACU British Championship – Michelin Dominate in Ireland

Jack Peace (Sherco)

It was a trip across the water to Ireland for rounds five and six where Harry Hemingway (Beta) won his first 2025 ACU British Trials Championship round on day one from Jack Peace (Sherco). On the second day it was Peace back to his very best to further extend his championship lead with just two rounds remaining.

In 2025 the Auto-Cycle Union Trials Commission unveiled a new format for the ACU Trial GB series. The Women’s ACU British Championship would be run alongside the Men’s categories, ensuring Women’s classes receive the recognition and support they deserve. This structure marks a new chapter in the history of British trials where women and youth riders gain equal footing and visibility alongside their male counterparts. The championship is observed using the ACU Trial GB marking system where competitors may stop, go sideways, or reverse without penalty. However, going backwards whilst footing incurs a five-mark penalty. A one and a half minute time allowance for each section is permitted.

Jack Dance (GASGAS)

All the riders took on 12 sections ridden over two laps competing on a wide variety of natural terrain on the exposed rocky moorland and wooded areas surrounding the Dunmore Offroad Activity Centre, Ballynahinch, Northern Ireland. The weather over the weekend was very warm and humid despite overcast starts and the odd shower on both days. An entry of 78 riders were entered across the seven classes: Trial Youth B (11), Trial2 Women (8), Trial Youth A (10), Trial Expert (25), Trial GB Women (5), Trial2 Men (10) and Trial GB Men (9). There would be four different routes marked with different colours at each section with varying levels of difficulty with the hardest test for the Trial GB Men.

George Hemingway (Beta)

Round five on the Saturday had started with the weather slightly over cast before the sun shone keeping the sections pretty consistent over the two laps despite the odd shower. Both the eventual winner Harry Hemingway and the championship leader Jack Peace were very close over the two laps. Peace led the way after Harry stopped in section four but this was all made equal when Peace stopped in section 11 putting them both on 10 marks lost. On the second lap they both rode even better parting with just five marks each with Harry taking the win on the tie decider. Jack Dance held off George Hemingway to finish third.

On the second day of competition for round six the weather very much replicated day one with the action just as hot. Changes to some of the sections to increase the severity soon came to light when Harry Hemingway took a huge tumble in the very steep opening section. On section nine the impossible was made possible as the modified section stopped the whole of the Trial GB riders except George Hemingway. At the close of the opening lap it was Peace on 10 followed closely by Jack Dance on 11 marks lost. On the second lap it was just as close as Peace dropped eight to secure the win with Dance again on his tail losing out by just two marks.

Jack Peace: “To come away from the weekend in Ireland extending my championship lead is exactly where I want to be with two rounds remaining. This was a new venue and offered some very steep and intimidating sections. On day one I was disappointed to miss the win as the results did not go my way on the most cleans tiebreak decider. This made me even more determined to win the second day as I was pushed all the way by Jack Dance. The rock was very slippery in the sections and when the dust settled on it the level of grip was hard to judge but as I have found in the past when these new challenges arrive the Michelin tyres keep me in control at all times which gave me the winning edge.”
