2025 ACU British Trials Championship – Michelin and Jack Peace Dominate Again
Once again a strong display from Jack Peace (Sherco) gave him maximum points from the four rounds of the 2025 ACU British Trials Championship as he won both days at Hookwoods. George Hemingway (Beta) had a rewarding weekend with two second place finishes pushing his elder brother Harry down to third in the championship
In 2025 the Auto-Cycle Union Trials Commission unveiled a new format for the ACU Trial GB series. The Women’s ACU British Championship would be run alongside the Men’s categories, ensuring Women’s classes receive the recognition and support they deserve. This structure marks a new chapter in the history of British trials where women and youth riders gain equal footing and visibility alongside their male counterparts. The championship is observed using the ACU Trial GB marking system where competitors may stop, go sideways, or reverse without penalty. However, going backwards whilst footing incurs a five-mark penalty. A one and a half minute time allowance for each section is permitted.
All the riders took on 12 sections ridden over two laps competing on a wide variety of natural and man-made hazards in the wooded areas surrounding the Hookwoods Trials Club, West Horsley, Surrey. The weather over the weekend was very warm and humid despite overcast starts to both days. A strong entry of 89 riders were entered across the seven classes: Trial Youth B (16), Trial2 Women (8), Trial Youth A (14), Trial Expert (23), Trial GB Women (5), Trial2 Men (13) and Trial GB Men (10). There would be four different routes marked with different colours at each section with varying levels of difficulty with the hardest test for the Trial GB Men.
George Hemingway (Beta)
Round three on the Saturday had started with the weather slightly over cast before the sun shone keeping the sections pretty consistent over the two laps. Championship leader Jack Peace was soon showing his top form which was only interrupted with a stop in section six to lead the way on the opening lap losing 13 with Harry Hemingway next on 17. On the second lap Peace further increased his advantage with the best lap of the trial parting with just eight marks. Next it was the battling Hemingway brothers with George claiming the runner up position from his elder brother Harry.
Harry Hemingway (Beta)
The sun was once again shining at round four on the Sunday where a good crowd turned out to watch the action. On the first lap two stops towards the end of the 12 sections from Jack Peace dropped him down to third behind the defending British Champion Harry Hemingway and his younger brother George. On the second lap and with all the work to do Peace was at his very best losing just two solitary marks on the last sections to take his fourth win of the year by just two marks from George Hemingway with Harry once again third.
Jack Peace: “I am feeling very confident on the Sherco and this was reflected with two good wins in the grounds of Hookwoods at rounds three and four. As expected it was a very well run event with a wide variety of challenging hazards. The warm dry weather we are experiencing at the moment left the sections bone dry meaning my concentration levels had to be very high which in the heat was very tiring. Some of the rocks were so dry that they actually polished up needing some very precision riding. With the maximum points now from the first four rounds I have opened up a good advantage at the half way stage in the 2025 championship. I was riding very confident boosted by the knowledge that the Michelin tyres were performing at their very best keeping me in control at all times. Once again they gave me the winning edge when the terrain is the most demanding.”
