Michelin and Jack Peace Lead the Way

A strong display from Jack Peace (Sherco) gave him maximum points at the opening two rounds of the 2025 ACU British Trials Championship.

The defending champion Harry Hemingway (Beta) pushed Peace all the way with two second place finishes to keep the title fight alive with his younger brother George rounding off the top three.

In 2025 the Auto-Cycle Union Trials Commission unveiled a new format for the ACU Trial GB series. The Women’s British Championship would be hosted alongside the Men’s categories, ensuring Women’s classes receive the recognition and support they deserve. The 2025 ACU Trial GB series would include the following categories: Trial GB, Trial GB Women, Trial 2 Men, Trial 2 Women, Trial Expert, Trial Youth A, and Trial Youth B. This structure marks a new chapter in the history of British trials where women and youth riders gain equal footing and visibility alongside their male counterparts. The championship is observed using the ACU Trial GB marking system where competitors may stop, go sideways, or reverse without penalty. However, going backwards whilst footing incurs a five-mark penalty. A one and a half minute time allowance for each section is permitted.

All the riders took on 12 sections ridden over two laps competing on a wide variety of natural and man-made hazards in the natural surroundings of the Inch Perfect Trials facility, Clitheroe, Lancashire. The weather over the weekend was fine with the occasional rain fall producing ideal riding conditions. A strong entry of 87 riders were entered across the seven classes: Trial Youth B (16), Trial2 Women (8), Trial Youth A (14), Trial Expert (23), Trial GB Women (5), Trial2 Men (12) and Trial GB Men (9). There would be four different routes marked with different colours at each section with varying levels of difficulty with the hardest test for the Trial GB Men.

Round one on the Saturday had started in overcast weather with the sun trying to break through but this was then interrupted by a heavy downpour on the first of the two laps which changed the riding conditions. Riding many new sections on the opening lap Jack Peace parted with 19 marks lost with Harry Hemingway next on 31. As Peace parted with a further 19 on the second lap both the Hemingway brothers reduced thier scores to 13 and 17. With the hard work done on the first lap Jack Peace was the winner.

Sundays round two had the sun shining through and with a light wind this helped to dry out the sections. Once again it was Jack Peace who led the way on the opening lap losing 8 marks with George Hemingway in close company along with Jack Dance (GASGAS) on 16, Harry Hemingway was next on 20. On the second lap Harry was in superb form with the best single lap score over the two laps of just 5 marks lost but it was not enough to overhaul Peace who happily took another maximum championship points with the second win.

Jack Peace: “This was a very good event for the opening round of this year’s ACU British Trials Championship. With my recent strong results in the FIM Trial World Championship I arrived at the event in a very confident mood. Using a wide variety of different hazards and with ever changing weather conditions over the weekend, which brought their own challenges, I am very happy to open the season here in the UK with two strong consistent wins. The Michelin trials tyres have once again proved vital to my success showing just how they can adapt to the changing conditions we have encountered at rounds one and two which helped me to secure the two wins.”
