In an exciting finish to the 2025 Scott Trial, it was the 2011 winner Jonathan Richardson who emerged the victor in front of a sensational ride from 17 year old George Hemingway (Beta) who missed the win in his first ride in this toughest of all motorcycle trials by just 2 marks. At 33 years of age this was the second time the Yorkshire farmer had won the much sought after Alfred A Scott memorial trophy and on both occasions he used Michelin tyres.

Organized by the Richmond Motor Club, the Scott Trial has a strong sporting heritage covering over 100 years and is unique in the fact that the rider’s time and observation scores are calculated together to find the overall winner. The event is based around Reeth and starts and ends high up on the North Yorkshire moors above the old market town of Richmond on the Marske road.

Saturday’s weather for the event was very kind with a cold but sunny start which welcomed the riders early on in the trial before the sun came out for the rest of the day making the riding conditions very dry. Having tackled the 80 miles single lap course covering 76 sections the eventual winner Jonathan Richardson (Vertigo) set the fastest time of 04.46.35 with Jack Peace (Sherco) the best on observation losing 18 marks.

The top three finishers Jonathan Richardson (Vertigo), George Hemingway (Beta) and Richard Sadler (Vertigo) all chose Michelin trials tyres and Vertigo won the manufacturers trophy, again on Michelin tyres with Jonathan Richardson, Richard Sadler and Alfie Lampkin in the three-man team. Over 75% of the entry of the 190 chose Michelin, a true testament to the quality of these superior tyres in the toughest trial of them all, the Scott.

Jonathan Richardson : “This win was very much a surprise with my time on the Vertigo very limited as a few weeks ago I had surgery on a back problem from my riding career. The day went well with no machine problems and just one rear wheel puncture until in the closing stages I had possibly the biggest crash on a trials motorcycle I have ever had. I must have knocked myself out for a few seconds as I did not even remember riding a couple of the observed sections as the adrenaline kept me going. I managed to make it back to the finish feeling very second hand and did not think I was anywhere near the win. My first Scott Trial was in 2009 when I finished ninth and in 2010 I moved up to fourth before I followed in my father Gerald’s footsteps by winning in 2011. Since my first win Michelin have always been my preferred tyre choice and 14 years on I am still winning on them. The feedback and durability of them at all times inspires your confidence to push your riding despite the extreme conditions found in this toughest of all one day trials. Due to work commitments I do not compete as often as I would like to but my wife Emily and my family always encourage me and make sure I compete in the Scott. I would like to thank everyone who made this win possible and yes, I will be back next year”.
