50 years of the ACU British Trials Championship
This special publication celebrates the ACU British Trials Championship over the last five decades. It gives the first comprehensive record of individual round winners and the overall Championship points scores. A wide selection of pictures of the top riders – many not seen before – illustrate each year up to 2024.
From 1974 there have been 15 winners of the Championship: Malcolm Rathmell. Martn Lampkin and Bob Shepherd in the late 1970s; Yrjo Veterinen in 1982 in a decade dominated by Steve Saunders into the early 1990s; Steve Colley and Dougie Lampkin from the early 1990s into the 2000s; Graham Jarvis in the ‘noughties; James Dabil and Michael Brown in the 2010s; Jack Price in the late 2010s and more recent wins for Iwan Roberts, Toby Martin, Jack Peace and Harry Hemmingway.

Dougie Lampkin: The Making of a World Champion
Widely acknowledged as one the greatest motorcycle trials riders of all time, Dougie Lampkin is the son of the winner of the first ever FIM World Trials Championships in 1975, Martin Lampkin. Following in his father’s footsteps, Dougie went on to win 7 straight outdoor world titles 1997-2003 and 5 straight indoor world titles from 1997-2001.
Through the lens of some of the best photographers of the sport we look at the formative years of Dougie Lampkin, born into and growing up in the sport through his father and uncles. His legendary will to win saw him win his first ACU British Youth title in 1991 aged 14, his first senior British title in 1994 and then the first of his remarkable run of world titles in 1997, aged just 21.
Many of the pictures have never been published before as we trace Dougie’s rise in The Making of a World Champion.
